Ok every woman out there, I have been wondering when is a good time to get your first Mammogram? I have always heard 30 is the age to start, but lately I have been hearing of all these different women finding out that they have breast cancer and it has been on my mind a lot. Everywhere I go it seems to come to mind. A good friend of mines good friend is 33 and she just found out that she has stage 4 breast cancer, and she has two little ones... That is so young and to have such young children.. My heart breaks for her and her family, then not to long ago my best friends mom found out that she had breast cancer, she is fine and found it way early due to a Mammogram. I was at church tonight and over heard someone talking about a friend of hers having breast cancer...
I know that I am only 23 almost 24, but I feel like it just might be the right time, that there is never a wrong time. What do you think? I could not fathom waiting and being to late..
Just a question!

If you are worried about it, I would suggest you bring it up with your Dr. the next time you see him or her. I am 30. I had my first one done at 26 because it was part of the exams needed for me to be listed for a liver transplant. It seems so common now days to hear people talking about breast cancer. I also do my self checks at home and my OB does them yearly for me too. Cant be to careful!
ReplyDeleteI had my first at 30 due to a strong family history. My mom, her sister, their 3 female cousins, my grand mom and her 5 sisters were all diagnosed with breast cancer. Unless there is a reason such as family history or a screening for organ transplant, etc, im pretty sure insurance won't cover it before the age of 35. And I keep reading insurance companies want to push back that age to 40. But, check with your doctor. And do BSE's every month!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear about those people you know and love having the diagnosis. But, for yourself- if it is on your mind, have it done and this will be your baseline. I didn't do my first until there was a problem, but all was okay. It is better to get it done and off your mind. Age is not always a factor. Best wishes to you and your friends. ♥
ReplyDeleteI am always so sad when I hear any mother has to struggle with her health. I am in my twenties, too and I wondered about it some time ago. I agree with the previous comments - age is not always a factor and there's no harm in doing it, right?
ReplyDeleteI had my first mammogram at the age of 25. It was expensive but for me worth it. I have very dense lumpy breasts so it was worth it for me. If you are worried get it done
